David Holmes Mitton

Alto saxophonist David Mitton is a recent graduate from Longy School of Music. While at Longy, David had the opportunity to study with Ayn Inserto, Charlie Bonacas, George Garzone, Ben Schwendener, John Lockwood, Bob Gullotti, Dave Bryant, and Charlie Kohlhase. In 2010, David received a masters in modern American music.

As well as being a competent saxophonist and improviser, David is also a musical composer/arranger. He’s led various groups such as, ‘Cosmic Horn Power’, ‘D.I.G.’, ‘The Bind’, and ‘The Nomadic Trio’, and has played in Paris, Germany, Amsterdam, and New England. In 2007, David collaborated with artist Moyo Okediji’s on his art installation at UCLA’s art museum. He continues to reach forward musically, while collectively recognizing how the music has developed.

In 2011, the O.A.C.(Outside Arts Collective) was created, with Mike Lavoie playing bass, Mike Ashley on drums, Andy McWain on piano, and David Mitton on alto sax. It is this core of musicians and the addition of longtime friend and saxophonist Bill Jones (tenor sax) who make up the David Mitton Project. David also performs with rock and R&B group “The Electra 225 Band” and funky jazz organ quartet “The Loose Cannon Orchestra”.
